5760 MHz EME

The antenna for 5760 MHz EME is my 5.5 m dish with a f/D of 0.366.

I am using the SM6FHZ 5 step septum feed horn for 6 cm EME. Designed by SM6FHZ and built by SM6PGP.

Equipment on 6 cm EME:

Antenna: 5.5 m solid dish, 0.366 f/D (SM6FHZ EME dish) giving 0.66 deg half power beam-width

The 6 cm RF-head is situated at the focal point of the dish and contains:
Feed: SM6FHZ 5 step septum in a circular WG and using a Kumar choke (SM6FHZ design and built by SM6PGP)
PA: 2 x CGH40035 GaN transistor amp giving about 100W at the feed driven by one CGH 40006, both running on +48V drain voltage (SM6PGP design and built by me)
LNA: NE3511S02 + HMC717 as second stage (SM6PGP design), NF measured to be <0.8 dB including the protection relay.

The 6 cm equipment situated indoors contains:
Transverter: SM6FHZ 6 cm transverter in the shack giving 2 W to 16 m of 1/2" Heliax cable to the feed point (400 mW available at the feed point)
Auto moon tracking with a OE5JFL controller.
Main rig is ICOM IC-756Pro3.
SDR is an AFEDRI SDR Net hooked up on the 28 MHz IF-line by a home made 10 dB branchline coupler.

Sun noise on April 10 2016 (flux = 105.5) 18.7 dB and more than 2.0 dB of moon noise (2016-04-09, moon distance ~356000 km and new Moon). Cold sky to ground is about 6.0 dB.

Recording of my echoes on October 10th 2014: Wav-file (size 29 MB) from 50 kHz frequency band width on the 28 MHz IF of my transverter. Can be played in the SDR-Radio SDR S/W. The recording covers a piece of the band (50 kHz) and you will find my echoes on 28 096.5 kHz in the recording (transmitting 5760.090 MHz). The recording was made using my AFEDRI SDR Net and the SDR-Radio S/W. The moon distance at the time was ~374 000 km that equals about -0.8 dB on the signal with respect to Perigee. Libration at 5760 MHz at the time was about 10 Hz, very low for being on 5760 MHz. The moon was at about 22 degrees of elevation.

Measurements on 6 cm EME:

SM6FHZ Cold sky to ground noise

6cm Cold sky to ground noise on April 10th, 2016

SM6FHZ Moon noise 2016-04-09

    6cm Moon noise on April 19th, 2016

SM6FHZ solar noise 2016-04-10

    6cm Sun noise on April 10th, 2016

Measuring Solar noise shows that the antenna pattern is quite clean. The first side lobe is about -18 dB (close to the predicted value
from EM-simulations with this feed). The antenna beam width is about 0.66 deg. The antenna is on the Sun to the left and is moved off the Sun to the right.

QSO's on 6 cm EME:

Recording from the British source TX-Factor of the SSB QSO with GB6GHY with Bob, G0FGX, at the mike, on August 25th, 2017:

as seen from my QSO partners view at the Goonhilly premesis. The QSO takes place 16 minutes into the recording.
